So I’m a bit of a procrastinator. Not in all areas of my life. I have a strong work ethic and I’m generally motivated in my work.Throughout my years of studying, my assignments were always done in advance of the deadline. However, I can procrastinate in my day to day life. There are so many things I want to do but when it comes down to it, I just don’t seem to be able to find my mojo to get them done. I want to get back to running and yoga. I have loads of art and craft ideas I want to try. I have so many interesting books waiting to e read. It’s just not really happening.
I think I am spending too much time in the Dark Playground! Don’t worry, it sounds worse than it is. I have come to understand about the ‘Dark Playground’ from Tim Urban. Here’s a drawing of his Dark Playground.Read More »
As you will know if you’ve read my ‘More About Me’ page, I am keen on well being and all that it entails. As part of my ongoing quest to manage and maintain my well being, I spent a Friday night with Ruby Wax.
Ruby Wax, was known as a comedian but is now more well known for her amazing work in the mental health. It was a huge pleasure to be on the front row of her show ‘Sane New World’.Read More »
Plans are great and sometimes a plan is essential. However, sometimes in life it’s great not to plan at all. When we do this we allow anything to happen and who knows what amazing opportunities that might bring. Over using or over relying on plans can also bring added stress to our lives. Plans can […]
I like it when people are motivated to cook lovely, home cooked meals, especially when I get to benefit from it. However, let’s not confuse my love of nice food with a love of cooking. They are two very different things. I don’t really like cooking. I like eating.Read More »
Anyone who has ever checked out any health, well being or self help section of a book shop knows that ‘Happiness’ is one of the buzz words. There are blog posts a plenty. Get it and you’ve go everything. It’s this thing that we are encouraged to seek and strive for. It’s the thing that will make it all okay.
If it works for you – that’s great but it all just feels a little bit unrealistic to me. After all isn’t happiness a feeling? It’s an emotion right? Emotions are not fixed states, they ebb and flow. We do not expect to always feel angry or sad so why does a state of happiness feel like something we should aim for?Like we expect to experience sadness and anger in our lives, we will also experience happiness. However, it is not possible for it to remain constant.Read More »
My blog is about cultivating my time to allow for greater focus on my own well being. This includes exploring new ideas and trying new things. The new thing I have recently tried is a Hypnosis Drop in Session.
The flyer offered ‘A guided mental journey of calm to allow tension to melt away’. That definitely sounded appealing so off I went.
At the beginning of the session the therapist explained what hypnosis was. Since the session I have done a bit of reading around to find out more.
Hypnotherapy is an alternative therapeutic treatment. It is very different from the hypnosis done for entertainment on tv shows. No one jumping around pretending to be a monkey here! All hypnosis is self hypnosis, it comes from yourself. You are always in control. You cannot be hypnotised without your consent. Read More »
For what seems like a lifetime I have had a very up and down relationship with my own energy. Sometimes it’s up but a lot of the time it’s down. At times I have been seriously exhausted.
I’ve spent hours searching and looking for possible causes, I’ve had the tests and followed the advice. I’ve read lots of stuff, some of it useful. Some of it has really helped (I’ll share some of that in future posts) but still the problem continued.
I see those people who seem to have boundless, uber levels of energy and those people who seem to fit a million things into a day. I’ve felt envious and wondered – what’s wrong with me?
We all have 7 days in a week and 24hrs in a day.
Is the answer to manage my time better, just try to get more done and keep on going?Read More »
Summary The first thing to say about this book is – great title.Who hasn’t experienced those moments when reality pops up and gives you a good old slap. The premise is that there is a gap between the reality we have and the reality we want. The bigger the gap, the more difficult life can be. Sitting in the gap, will have you dwelling negatively on the past or anxiously worrying about the future. The book offers some really useful thoughts and ideas about how to live with the gap without getting stuck in it.
