Going Colourtastic – Screen Freedom

Screen Freedom  is another new category for Cultivating Time. Screen Freedom is about exploring activities that will give me a break from using a screen.

Our modern day lifestyles feel like they revolve around the use of technology and screen based devices. My work-life includes daily use of a laptop and a work mobile phone. The world of the internet does include some amazing, fascinating stuff but it’s easy to get lost on the internet and it definitely swallows time. I can easily loose myself for a whole evening. There are some times when my brain and my body is seeking time away from screens and technology. This is one of the main reasons I read paperback fiction books as apposed to e-reader devices.

So for my first post on the theme of Screen Freedom I am exploring the current popular activity of colouring. Yes folks, its time to embrace your inner colourtastic (made up word but I like it!)

It’s the Grand Finale

Not so long ago we had an incredible sunset. We stood in awe at our bedroom window and felt compelled to capture the beauty in photographs.

I feel this is a fitting final post for the last day of the blog challenge that I have been participating in since January.

Have you seen anything recently and felt compelled to reach for your camera?

Harness the Waves

Sometimes in the waves of change we find our true direction (Unknown)

Feelings are much like waves, we can’t stop them from coming but we can choose which one to surf (Jonatan Mårtensson)

The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to the soul (Robert Wyland)

Sit in reverie and watch the changing color of the waves that break upon the idle seashore of the mind (Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)

The world is full of poetry. The air is living with its spirit; and the waves dance to the music of its melodies, and sparkle in its brightness (James Gates Percival)

Le Grand Depart – Once in a Lifetime

Today’s colour is Unmellow Yellow. I felt it was fitting to share photos from a very unmellow yellow day back in 2014 when we celebrated Le Grand Depart of The Tour De France coming to Yorkshire, England.

I am not a fan of cycling or sport in general, however, I knew this was a once in a lifetime experience. This was a fantastic community event. People decorated outside their houses, shops decorated their windows and the whole area went unmellow yellow!

The atmosphere was brilliant. The sun was shining. We knew we were witness to something special. Who knew cyclists could go so fast. The speed and the intensity of the race was incredible. The community coming together to share, enjoy and celebrate. A day to be truly proud to be from Yorkshire.

The Hearth of the Home

Historically the hearth provided the main source of heat for the home, as well as being the place where most of the cooking was done. Naturally, the fireplace evolved into the central gathering place for the family and the hearth became synonymous with home – especially during the long winter months.

“For me it is sufficient to have a corner by my hearth, a book and a friend, and a nap undisturbed by creditors or grief.”     Fernandez de AndradaRead More »

A Favourite View – Seeking Pacific Blue

Last year I visited Cornwall for the first time. We stayed in glorious St Ives. I spent my 40th Birthday there and fell in love with the place.

St Ives is a seemingly subtropical oasis where the beaches are golden, the vegetation is lush and the light piercingly bright. The light is incredible. It takes a day or so for your eyes to adjust to the brightness that surrounds the beaches and the sea views.Read More »
